- 17. Tara Maclay
The Departed: Amber Benson of Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Cause of Death: Gunshot wound to the chest
Joss Whedon hates love. Love must die. Willow and Tara find love. Ipso facto, Tara must die. In quite possibly the series' most unexpected death to date, a stray bullet from a confrontation outside rips through Tara's chest mere minutes after the two finally reconcile their relationship.
Honorable mention goes to the shooter, Warren Mears, whom while we expected to recieve his just come-uppance, no one imagined Willow blithely ripping the skin off his body! - Citation :
- 5. Joyce Summers
The Departed: Kristine Sutherland of Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Cause of Death: Sudden aneuryism
As if it wasn't horrible enough to watch Joyce struggle through the debilitating symptoms of her brain tumors, Joss Whedon threw us one of his worst curveballs yet when weeks after her mother's supposed recovery, Buffy arrived home at episode's end to her mother's lifeless body.
The episode that followed, "The Body," dropped most of the show's supernatural pretense solely to flesh out the entire horrifying experience, and we haven't stopped crying since! Seriously, it's ruining our lives! | |
